5 custom label mistakes to avoid

Custom Label

Despite the numerous pieces of information and guidelines available online, we still see customers make errors when creating their custom labels. Well thought out custom labels may appear perfect on your computer screen, but printing problems may interfere with the final product quality. Here are five mistakes that we see often and hope that you will avoid them in the future when making a label design:

1. Bad font color

You will be disappointed with your promotional water bottles if you use dark text on a dark background. The screen might show a perfect design because of its brightness but not after it’s printed. Use simple colors such as black against a pale background.

2. Supersizing the company logo

This is a common problem observed among DIY label makers who create labels for custom water bottles. After uploading the logo, the user fills the label completely. Most beverage companies do not do this and neither should you. A rule of thumb suggests a maximum ratio of 30% of the entire label while leaving the rest for contact info, QR codes etc.

3. Blurry imagery

This annoying custom label mistake is unfortunately seen on many custom tumblers or promotional mugs. Vector images are a good selection as they can be resized without tampering with resolution. If you are using .pngs, .jpgs, or other image types, make sure you have a minimum 300 DPI for best quality label images.

4. Complex fonts

If you choose a complicated font, ensure that its contrast is sharp enough to be visible. A bold font is recommended as it is easy to read. Don’t make people struggle reading words on your label. A suitable font is one that can be read comfortably at a distance, up close, and while in motion.

5. Using an overcomplicated design

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Since you will be working on custom water bottle labels with limited space, avoid busy backgrounds and employ proportionality. Minimize the use of multiple fonts and keep the design simple.

Use these tips to convey a message of purpose to customers and prospects. People who see the promotional products will have lasting impressions when they encounter them.
